Argos for Shopify
Yes, Argos works with Shopify. At setup, the Argos team plugs it into your Shopify store, or all of your stores: from a supplier link, it builds each product’s copy, images, price, attributes and category, in your store’s format. A human approves every listing, then it goes to Shopify live or as a draft, your call.
UpdatedWhat makes a complete Shopify listing?
In the Shopify admin, a product is a lot more than a title and a description. Here’s what it holds, and what eats up time when you fill it in by hand for every supplier product.
- Options and variants
- A product can have up to three options (size, color, material…), and each combination of values becomes a variant, with its own price and inventory.
- Media
- Images, videos or 3D models. Each variant can take a single image, picked from the product’s media.
- Pricing
- Price, compare-at price and cost per item, set per variant as soon as there are variants.
- Product category
- One category per product, from Shopify’s Standard Product Taxonomy. It drives tax calculation and sales channel compatibility, and unlocks category metafields.
- Category metafields
- The attributes that belong to that category (color, material, age group…). They can be connected to variant options so the same values are reused from one product to the next.
- Type, tags, collections
- Product type is a free-form field. Tags and type often feed smart collections, which sort products based on conditions.
- Status
- Active, Draft or Archived, plus a status that makes a product reachable only through its link. A draft product isn’t for sale.
Filling all of that in by hand is the copy-paste most teams still do in the admin: title, attributes, variants, category. That’s the work Argos takes over.
Will my variant options stay consistent?
It’s the classic weak spot of a Shopify catalog fed by several people. Shopify lets you name options freely, product by product: “Color” here, “Colour” there, “Black” on one listing and “matte black” on the next. Your store’s filters and color swatches pay the price.
Shopify offers a fix: connect options to category metafields, so the same values are used everywhere (rename a color in one place and every variant using it updates). That only works if every new listing reuses those existing values.
Argos matches the attributes you already have instead of creating yet another one, and follows your rules on the thousandth listing just like the first.
One more constraint worth knowing: the three-option limit per product. A supplier listing that splits a product along four criteria has to be brought down to three. Decide ahead of time how you handle those cases: it’s a rule in your process, and Argos follows your rules.
Will my images look consistent across collections?
In a collection grid, a supplier shot on a white background next to a styled lifestyle photo stands out right away. Shopify generates the different image sizes your theme uses on its own, but it doesn’t make your photos consistent with each other.
Argos keeps the product exactly as it is in the photo and redoes everything around it: background, lighting, staging, following your store’s style guide, calibrated for you at setup. Main image, gallery and variant images are cropped, made consistent and compressed so your site stays fast. Every render goes through a separate check.
Active or draft: what happens to an approved listing?
Nothing reaches Shopify without approval: every listing Argos prepares waits in an approval queue, and someone on your team reviews and approves it. Then you choose:
- publish directly: the listing is for sale in your store;
- send as a draft: the listing sits in your Shopify admin, complete, but not for sale yet. You set it to Active whenever you decide.
I run several Shopify stores. How does that work?
Every Shopify store has its own admin, and jumping from one to the next is part of daily life with a store portfolio. With Argos, you run all your stores from the same interface, and each one keeps its own style guide and rules: a home decor store and a fashion store can each have their own voice, images and pricing formula.
We set everything up for you, store by store: the style guide, your rules, and plugging Argos into each one.
What should I prepare before the call?
Nothing is required. But to keep the call focused, these help describe your process:
- how many stores you run and how many products you list;
- two or three listings you consider great, in each store;
- your usual option names, and the cases where a product needs more than three options;
- your smart collections and the tags or types they depend on;
- the metafields your theme shows on the product page;
- your preference: publish directly or as a draft.
