Argos for PrestaShop
Yes, Argos works with PrestaShop. We plug Argos into your PrestaShop store at setup: from a supplier link, it builds the complete listing, from copy and images to price, attributes and category, following your rules. A human approves every listing before it goes to your catalog, live or as a draft, your call.
UpdatedAttributes, features, combinations: what does what in PrestaShop?
PrestaShop separates two ideas other platforms blur together, both managed under Catalog › Attributes & Features:
- Attributes
- What the shopper picks: color, size, capacity. They’re used to build combinations, and each one displays as a drop-down list, radio buttons, or a color or texture picker.
- Combinations
- The versions of a product, built by combining its attributes. Each one has its own quantity, references (EAN-13, UPC…) and images, ticked from the product’s images.
- Features
- Fixed information shared by every combination: material, weight, country of origin. They show up as a table on the product page.
A combination can’t be created unless the attribute already exists in the store. Hence the temptation, when listing by hand, to create a “Color 2” attribute or a duplicate value to go faster, and a catalog that slowly falls apart.
Argos matches the attributes you already have instead of creating yet another one. Your attributes and values stay the reference.
How is a combination’s price worked out?
In PrestaShop, a combination doesn’t have a price of its own: it has an impact on price relative to the product, positive or negative (−2, for example). The base price is entered tax excluded, and the tax rule gives the tax-included price.
In practice: a rounding or price-ending rule (a price ending in .90, say) has to hold on the final price of each combination, tax included if that’s what your shopper sees. With Argos, your formula (tiers, rounding, price endings) is applied and broken down on every listing: you see where the price comes from before you approve.
Summary and description: two texts, two jobs
PrestaShop asks for two texts: the summary, short (400 characters by default, adjustable in the product preferences), used by search engines and at the top of the product page, and the full description, further down. On top of that, the SEO tab holds the meta title, meta description and friendly URL.
Argos writes in your store’s voice and in the format you expect: copy format, required blocks, number of images. One brief for the whole team, so the same voice on every listing, no matter who runs it or who approves it.
Cover image and images per combination
All of a product’s images, combinations included, are uploaded on the product page. The first one becomes the cover image; each combination then gets the images ticked for it. Each image’s caption serves as its alt text, in every language of the store. PrestaShop then generates the image formats your theme uses.
Argos keeps the product exactly as it is in the photo and redoes everything around it (background, lighting, staging) following your store’s style guide. Main image, gallery, variants: everything is cropped, made consistent and compressed, and every render goes through a separate check.
Main category and associated categories
A PrestaShop product can sit in several categories, but it has one main category: that’s the one that shows up in the product’s URL. PrestaShop’s documentation recommends child categories over root categories.
Categorization is part of what Argos prepares on every listing, following your store’s rules, configured at setup.
Online or offline: where’s the draft in PrestaShop?
PrestaShop doesn’t have a “draft” status as such: a product is online or offline. An offline product is saved and complete, but invisible to your shoppers until you switch it on. Visibility (everywhere, catalog only, search only, nowhere) is set separately.
On the Argos side, nothing changes: every listing goes through the approval queue first, and nothing goes live until a human has approved it. Then, publish directly or send as a draft, your call.
PrestaShop multistore or separate stores?
PrestaShop offers a multistore mode: several storefronts, each with its own domain, branding or prices, run from a single back office. Other portfolios run on separate installs.
Either way, Argos gives you one interface for all your stores, and each one keeps its own style guide and rules. How your stores are organized is part of what we look at together when we review your stores and process.
What should I prepare before the call?
- how many stores you run, multistore or not, and how many products you list;
- your attributes and features, as they exist under Catalog › Attributes & Features;
- your pricing rules, and whether they apply to the tax-excluded or tax-included price;
- two or three great listings, with and without combinations;
- your preference: publish directly or save offline to switch on later.
